See below for an update, as of the morning of March 16th, 2020.
At The Coffee Shelf I have implemented the following:
Though my sanitation standards are high as a restaurant, I have recently emphasized extra procedures internally. In addition to washing hands, my employees are sanitizing their personal devices (smartphones, etc).
We are sanitizing surfaces our customers touch (registers & iPads, tables, door handles). We are using Clorox spray, which supposedly kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria.
I am kindly asking my customers to use hand sanitizer or alcohol based wipes before using our register. I'm also recommending they wash their hands after interacting with our register.
I've suggested my employees sanitize/clean their car door handles and steering wheels regularly.
Additional procedures as of March 16th, 2020, being announced on social media:
We are only providing paper cups and paper bags, and plastic utensils.
We continue to focus on sanitization efforts to protect our customers and our employees
We have reduced our lobby to 1/2 capacity to still allow seating while practicing social distancing
We encourage our customers to practice social distancing while in line waiting to order, or to pick up an order.
Our phones remain open for call ahead orders.
Let's work together as a business community so that we remain a business community. It is my hope that more draconian procedures will not be forced upon us in South Carolina. My next step would be to close my lobby, similar to what Starbucks and Chick-fil-A have done. I am also considering a reduction in business hours.
After the governor restricted restaurants to take-out only, the evening of Tuesday, March 17th, we implemented the following:
Moved all chairs and tables to the outside of our lobby area.
Added tape for a visual cue for customers in our attempt to maintain social distancing
Announced on social media that we are still open, but reduced our hours
Reduced the number of shifts in order to save some money
On Tuesday, March 24th, we began curbside service. Positive results have come from this addition.
